Ferndale Project
This spacious four-bedroom home had great potential but was in need of a refresh. The large, open rooms and beautiful expansive garden were highlights, yet the interior was heavily dated. The living room was dominated by dark wooden ceiling, and the kitchen was old and in need of an overhaul. The cabinetry throughout the home was dark and heavy, creating a somewhat somber atmosphere. The entire house had a generally dark and outdated feel.
Rather than committing to costly renovations, we decided to refurbish the existing interior. With budget constraints in mind, we focused on simple but impactful updates. The entire home, inside and out, was repainted with a lighter color palette. The ceilings were given a fresh coat of eggshell white, immediately brightening the rooms and giving a sense of space.
In the kitchen, rather than a complete renovation, the walls were painted in a soft, refreshing duck egg blue, creating a serene atmosphere. The veneer cabinetry was repurposed and given a new lease on life with an arctic white finish. This simple update revitalized the entire space, making it feel airy, modern, and inviting without the expense of a full remodel. The result was a stunning transformation that showcased the home's potential, delivering maximum impact with minimal cost.
The exterior of the home also underwent a dramatic transformation, replacing the outdated red brick with a whitewash finish. The cream-colored walls were updated with a light duck egg blue, while the red terracotta roof was given a sleek, dark gunmetal grey coat, modernizing the entire facade. The goal was to embrace the home's location and bring the owners' vision of a light, airy, and welcoming space to life.
